Va. man faces marijuana charges

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – A Monticello man is behind bars accused of being part of a multi-national Internet-based marijuana distribution ring.

Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Lt. David Wells says 27-year-old David Allen Haney was arrested Thursday and charged with possession of more than 5 pounds of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Wells says authorities with the sheriff’s office, Virginia State Police and the United States Postal Inspection Service searched Haney’s home in a gated community Thursday and found about seven pounds of “high-grade” marijuana and other items believed to be involved in the distribution ring.

Haney remains in the Central Virginia Regional Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

If convicted, Haney faces up to 30 years in prison.
