USPS Sees Drop in Volume

The United States Postal Service is facing one of the most difficult challenges in its history. There has been a steady decline in single-piece first class mail over the past decade. Trends show more people are paying bills on-line or sending cards via e-mail. The poor economy has led to an even greater decline in USPS volume.

In the past year, the number of pieces of processed and delivered mail dropped by nine-billion.
The postal service is now conducting a study to determine whether or not the current resources the service has are still needed.
